 Education & Training

The Toastmasters educational program is not limited to the Communication and Leadership tracks.  Even in the year-long hustle and bustle, we offer a seasonal variety of educational opportunities to our members and leaders, including the following:

Distinguished Club Program – Annual, July 1 to June 30

Club Annual Performance Recognition

The annual performance measurement program for every club helps ensure local clubs fulfill their mission statement for all members:

  • Communication goals based on members completing their Competent and Advanced Communications projects
  • Leadership goals based members completing their Competent and Advanced Leadership projects
  • Club Officer training goals ensuring club officers attend semi-annual club leadership training events sponsored by District 36
  • Administrative goals ensuring clubs maintain officer information and collect semi-annual member dues by World Headquarters processing deadlines.

Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) – Summer & Winter

Club Officer Training for District 36 Club Officers

Held every summer and winter, Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) events are scheduled across the DC Metro Area for conducting the club officer training program required by Toastmasters International. The 4-hour program is conducted at several locations through the DC Metro area over June/July/August for summer events and December/January/February for winter events.

Clubs receive credit in the Distinguished Club program for have four or more officers attend summer and winter sessions. Officers should bring their officer manuals to their scheduled event. The District Resource Room is also available for purchasing club materials.

District 36 Conference – Fall & Spring

Member Development and Recognition

Held every fall and spring, District 36 Conferences are designed with the average member in mind.  Educational programs are centered around how to utilize all the speaking and leadership opportunities offered in the DC Metro Area in order to define your own personal development plan.  Plus, there is recognition for members and clubs alike for all their accomplishments during the six-months leading up to conference.  In addition, special guests like our Communication & Leadership Award winners and Regional/International leaders are in attendance, giving keynotes you won’t want to miss.

District Conference is also where the semi-annual District Council Business meetings are conducted.  All District leaders as well as Club Presidents and VPs Education are voting members of the District Council and encouraged to attend the Council meeting.  Each spring, District leaders are elected for the next term and District Realignments are put before the Council for approval.

Go to our "Home Page" for location and registration information as these events become available
