Freetoasthost 1.0 Sites will be unavailable after Feb 17, 2012
Along with the Toastmasters International rebranding, TI is changing the freetoasthost websites. They have created a new version 2.0 (the old version was 1.0). All sites must be migrated to version 2.0, and the bad news is that there is no conversion utility. There is no way to transition your current 1.0 site to the new 2.0 site; the sites must be completely rebuilt.  All 1.0 sites will be unavailable after Feb 17, 2012.  You must convert to the new 2.0 site before that date if you want your club to continue to have a freetoasthost website.  To request your new site, you can go to this link. This is a guide on how to request your new 2.0 site and how to begin building it. There are also support forums available that answer questions, allow you to request enhancements, and provide FAQs. The FAQs are very useful and you can reach them and join the support forum here.  One forum user prepared a powerpoint presentation on her experience building a new site, you can view that here.
Below is information regarding the Freetoasthost changes that was taught by Beth Stinson, DTM, at District 36 TLIs recently.
Toastmasters Leadership Institute Saturday, February 4 at MedImmune, LLC

The next Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) session in District 36 is scheduled for this coming Saturday morning, February 4, at MedImmune, LLC in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The address is One MedImmune Way, Gaithersburg, Maryland

District 36 Winter TLI sessions are drawing rave reviews and large crowds due to a combination of excellent core officer training presentations, terrific and fun electives, and the opportunity to share experiences and ideas with fellow Toastmasters and club officers as we prepare for the second half of the Toastmasters year. The class on how to set up a new FreeToastHost website for clubs is also drawing much interest, as February 17 -- when current FreeToastHost sites simply disappear as Toastmasters International switches from the 1.0 version to the 2.0 version of FreeToastHost – rapidly approaches.

Like many companies and government agencies, MedImmune requires all visitors to their facility to register and display a name badge while in the building. Given the large number of Toastmasters reporting for TLI Winter TLI sessions, District 36 strongly urges those who plan to attend to pre-register in order to avoid a back up at the door.

Walk-ins who have not pre-registered will be welcomed and will be admitted, but may experience a delay to complete the registration process on site.

The schedule for the February 4 TLI is as follows:

Saturday, February 4, 2012 - MedImmune, LLC, One MedImmune Way, Gaithersburg, MD 20878 (pre-registration required tor admittance badges)
  • 8:30 am--Registration opens
  • 9:00 am--Officer Training Classes begin
  • 11:05 am--Fun classes begin

The Winter TLI sessions are proving so fun and valuable that many District 36 Toastmasters are attending more than one TLI!

They are different from the summer sessions in that they feature more interactive officer training than the summer sessions. At Winter TLI, club officers draw on their experiences in the offices so far to share best practices, challenges, and tips for overcoming those challenges."Many club officers find Winter TLI sessions to be the most valuable of all," said Mike Rilee, DTM, Lt. Governor – Education and Training. "It’s an opportunity to share and learn from your colleagues about what works best and how other clubs are meeting challenges all clubs face."

Among the elective highlights available at Winter TLI are the classes Beth Stinson, DTM, is conducting on how to transition to the new FreeToastHost system. "It is vital that club officers, webmasters, and anyone else who works with a club’s FreeToastHost site attend TLI this season," she said.

Keeping a FreeToastHoast web presence is essential. Most visitors to clubs now find local Toastmasters clubs on the Internet. The FreeToastHost system has also proven invaluable to many clubs as a way to streamline communication among members outside the meeting and for building agendas for club meetings.

If a club does not have a FreeToastHost site yet, Stinson’s TLI class also presents a terrific opportunity to find out how to get started.

Lt. Governor Rilee reminded Toastmasters that TLI is for every Toastmaster, not just club officers. Club officers are expected to participate as part of their club service and as part of the effort to achieve the club’s officer training goal under the Distinguished Club Program. All Toastmasters, however, are invited and urged to attend TLI. The rich line up of electives this season has something for everybody. They are a great opportunity to learn even more about how to be a better speaker, leader and Toastmaster. They are also a lot of fun!"

Toastmasters who are thinking about trying a new club office next year are also invited and encouraged to sit in on an officer class this season to get an idea of what serving in the office entails and to get a head start on learning the duties of that office.

Spiffing Up Club Award Ribbons

(LAUREL, MD) -- Crown of Laurel Toastmasters Vice President of Education Hank Suarez-Murias uses a hand held steamer to take the folding wrinkles out of the club's award ribbons just before the club's meeting began November 15. The ribbons were proudly displayed during District Governor Barry Piatt's visit to the club to celebrate its Dream Team status, awarded for getting all seven officers trained at last summer's TLI. The club hosted an open house to recruit new members in conjunction with the visit.
